Fountain City Snacks is more than just a snack brand—it’s a story of perseverance, passion, and a deep love for Kansas City. Our journey began in March 2009, at the tail end of the Great Recession, with nothing but an idea and the determination to make it work. As lifelong Kansas Citians and brothers-in-law, we wanted to build something special for our community.

We started as a snack food distribution company, KC Munchies, with one big goal—to bring great snacks to Kansas City convenience stores. That mission took us all the way to Chicago, where we met with the leadership of CJ Vitner Company, an established 83-year-old snack brand. No one had successfully sold their products this far from Chicago, and they were skeptical we could do it. But we convinced them to give us a chance, and when they did, we hit the ground running.

Both of us were working full-time jobs at the time, so we built the business in the early morning hours—literally. Every weekend, we would drive through the night, stocking shelves by 3:00 AM, catching whatever sleep we could in the truck, and doing it all again the next day. That hard work paid off, allowing Brian to leave his full-time job and focus entirely on KC Munchies. From there, we expanded, distributing brands like Snyder’s-Lance, Snack King, Rap Snacks, King Henry’s, Carley’s Brand Cookies, and many others, building a footprint in over 200 locations across Kansas City.

Our journey hasn’t been easy. We survived the Great Recession, worked as essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and even faced a devastating fire in October 2018 that destroyed everything we owned. But we rebuilt. And while we spent 15 years selling other brands, our dream was always to create something of our own.

That dream became reality on December 10, 2024, when KC Munchies officially received its registered trademark for Fountain City Snacks. More than just a brand, Fountain City Snacks is a reflection of Kansas City’s resilience, creativity, and community spirit.

We also believe in giving back to the city that has supported us from the very beginning. What better way to do that than by helping preserve the fountains, sculptures, and memorials that make Kansas City truly unique? That’s why every time you purchase a bag of Fountain City Snacks, a portion of the proceeds goes to the City of Fountains Foundation. This partnership allows us to support the landmarks that define our hometown and ensure they remain a part of Kansas City’s identity for generations to come.
