Our Story

Built in Kansas City. Earned the Long Way.

“We did not wake up one day and decide snacks were cute. We spent years on routes, in stores, on shelves, and in the middle of the Kansas City snack business before putting our own name on the bag.”

How It Started

Before the Brand, There Were the Routes.

Fountain City Snacks grew out of a local distribution business that began in March 2009, near the tail end of the Great Recession. It was not glamorous. It was late nights, early mornings, weekend shelf work, and learning the snack business store by store.

That mattered. We learned what actually moves in convenience stores. We learned what gets ignored. We learned that packaging, flavor, price point, consistency, and local identity all have to work together. A snack brand is not just a logo. It has to earn its spot on the shelf.

Fountain City Snacks is the result of that education. It is Kansas City pride, bold popcorn flavors, retail discipline, and a little bit of attitude built into a bag.

Timeline

2009

Distribution Roots Begin

We started servicing local stores and building the relationships that still shape the business today.

15+ yrs

Learning the Shelf

Years of route work taught us which snacks get picked up, which ones get passed over, and why.

200+

Kansas City Store Network

Our local convenience-store footprint gave Fountain City Snacks a real path to market from day one.

Belton

Production Comes Home

Our popcorn is produced at 528 N Scott Ave in Belton, Missouri, where customers can shop selected items and see production through the front retail window.

Now

Everyday + Reserve

We are building two lanes: bold everyday snacks for local retail and a premium Reserve line for corporate gifting and higher-end presentation.

What We Believe

Our Values

The brand has personality, but the business behind it is practical: make a good product, package it well, show up consistently, and never let “local” be an excuse for average.

01

Kansas City First

Our identity is tied to the city that built us — its fountains, neighborhoods, sports, food culture, and local pride.

02

Flavor Has to Earn It

We like bold names and bold ideas, but the product still has to taste good enough to bring people back.

03

Shelf Reality Matters

Pretty packaging means nothing if it does not work in real stores, on real racks, with real customers making quick decisions.

04

Small Batch, Not Small Thinking

We make popcorn locally, but the goal is not to look homemade. The goal is to look sharp, taste better, and scale intelligently.

05

Two Lanes, One Standard

Everyday bags and Reserve gifts serve different customers, but both need to feel intentional and worthy of the Fountain City name.

06

Keep It Moving

New flavors, better systems, stronger packaging, cleaner execution. The brand should always feel alive.

The People

The Team Behind the Bags

This is still a hands-on business. Ownership, production, retail, distribution, and customer feedback are close enough to keep the brand honest.

Brian Hughes

Co-Owner / Operations

Brian brings the operating discipline needed to keep the business moving, from distribution realities to day-to-day execution.

Eric Boyle

Co-Owner / Brand Builder

Eric helps drive the brand direction, product positioning, packaging ideas, and the long-term vision for Fountain City Snacks.

Production Team

Popcorn + Candy

The work happens in Belton: popping, coating, seasoning, packaging, and keeping the product moving from production to shelf.

Retail + Routes

Customer Feedback Loop

The stores tell the truth. Local retail relationships help us understand what customers want and where the next opportunity is.

Belton Production. KC Roots.

Come See Where It Happens.

Our building at 528 N Scott Ave, Belton, MO 64012 includes a front retail space and a large window overlooking the production area. Customers can walk in, shop a selected lineup, and watch popcorn being made behind the glass.

We do not have full exterior signage yet, so the building may not look like a finished retail storefront from the outside. Inside, the popcorn is real, the production is active, and the brand is taking shape.

We also sell a limited variety of freeze-dried candy and our own cotton candy in-store and through local convenience stores. Those products are part of the mix, but popcorn is still the main event.
